Hello! I’m J. Nicole Miller (she/her), and I’m a Ph.D. candidate in information studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. I hold a bachelor’s degree in literary studies from the University of Texas at Dallas and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My work focuses on the information behavior of youth (ages 15-24) in fan spaces and in relation to their leisure reading. More specifically, I am investigating how youth readers search for new materials to read and the different strategies they employ when seeking fiction versus fanfiction.
In addition to my research, I am also an instructor at the University of Maryland iSchool where I have taught two undergraduate courses: Introduction to Information Science and Information User Needs & Assessment. During the summers, I am an adjunct at the Catholic University of America and teach a graduate course in library and information science on media for children.
